María José Salazar Soto, is a Social Worker with a specialization in Family and Social Development, a graduate in the methodology of Evaluation of Conditions for Parentality, a student of the Diploma in Gender Mainstreaming in Public Policy and a Master in Family Studies and Development. She is also a member of the civil society council of the National Disability Service in the region of La Araucanía, Chile. During her career, she has worked in Special Education, tertiary health (citizen participation) and social research in disability, seeking to contribute to the social and labor inclusion of young children with support needs and / or intellectual disabilities and their families. Currently, she is in charge of the National Gender Equity and Empowerment of Women and the area of Families and Caregivers of the Chilean Foundation for Disability, where she has implemented various programs aimed at the visibility and leadership of people with disabilities and caregivers. Likewise, programs have been implemented that link the work of caregiving from a gender perspective. During 2022 it coordinated the implementation of a pilot project, whose participants are the protagonists of the book Personas que Cuidan (People Who Care).
