Jo Chopra McGowan is an American who has lived in India since 1981. The mother of three children, her youngest, Moy Moy, had a severe disability. For her, Jo co-founded the Latika Roy Foundation in 1994 – a non-profit in the foothills of the Himalayas which has provided services for many thousands of disabled children and their families and helped to create awareness and social change around disability in India.
Jo is a writer and an activist. She has been arrested and jailed many times in the US for social causes and writes widely on political issues.
