Magga Lisa Steingrimsdottir is a developmental therapist with more than five decades of experience supporting children with disabilities and their families. Since beginning her career in 1970, she has dedicated her professional life to advancing high-quality short break (respite) services and promoting family-centered supports.

From 1987 to 2024, Magga served as Director of Álfaland, a short break home in Iceland providing residential respite services for children with disabilities. Throughout her leadership, she championed compassionate, innovative approaches that enhanced the lives of children and their caregivers.

An active leader within the International Short Break Association (ISBA), Magga has served on the ISBA Committee since 2010. In 2018, she successfully organized and hosted the International Short Break Association Conference in Iceland, bringing together professionals, researchers, and advocates from around the world to advance the field of respite care.

Magga continues to be a passionate advocate for inclusive, high-quality short break services and international collaboration to improve support for families of children with disabilities.
